Dear friend,
Human beings often remain a mystery to themselves. How many times do we find ourselves wondering: ”Why did I act this way?” Within us dwell invisible forces that guide our choices without our conscious will truly intervening.
Modern psychoanalysis has revealed the existence of this unconscious that governs our behaviors without our knowledge. This truth is not new: already the apostle Paul confessed with humility: ”My hand does not do the good I want to do, and does the evil I do not want to do“.
We often act mechanically, driven by deep springs that we do not control. This woman who takes a taxi without warning, this man who reacts with silence… So many of our daily gestures escape our rational control.
Yet, in this apparent anarchy of the human soul, a higher wisdom operates. As Christ taught: ”Not one of your hairs falls without the will of your Father who is in heaven”. Nothing happens by chance, even what seems most fortuitous to us.
Sometimes Providence makes us go through difficult trials not to punish us, but to teach us gratitude. When an accident occurs and the outcome is not dramatic, should we not give thanks rather than regret what was perhaps written?
In these moments of tension, instead of losing ourselves in reproaches, let us learn to see the benevolent hand that has preserved what is essential. For behind each trial often hides a lesson of love and recognition.
With all my benevolence.
